The Art of Collecting

"Embrace the mystery of the blind box."

The Blind Box Experience

The most important thing to know about collecting Smiski is that they are sold in blind boxes. When you purchase a box from the Living Series or the Working Series, the packaging shows you all the possible figures you might get, but the box is sealed. You won't know which pose is inside until you open it.

This element of surprise is a core part of the culture. It turns every purchase into a tiny unboxing ceremony.

The Anatomy of a Series

Dreams Inc. releases Smiski in themed "Series." A standard series typically consists of:

  • 6 Standard Figures: The main cast of the series, each with an equal probability of being pulled.
  • 1 Secret Figure: An unlisted, rare figure that does not appear on the main packaging artwork. Pulling a secret is the ultimate goal for serious collectors.

If you buy an entire "case" (usually containing 12 blind boxes), you are generally guaranteed to get all 6 standard figures. However, the Secret figure is never guaranteed — it replaces a standard figure in a small percentage of cases. For a deeper look, see our dedicated secret figures guide.

Singles, Cases, or the Secondary Market?

There's no single "right" way to collect — it depends on your goal and budget:

  • Single blind boxes are the cheapest way to dip in and enjoy the surprise. Perfect if you just want one or two figures.
  • A full case of 12 is the most efficient route to a complete set. You're all but guaranteed all 6 standard figures and have a real shot at the secret.
  • Secondary market platforms like eBay and Mercari let you buy specific individual figures that have already been opened. Pay a small premium to get exactly the pose you want without gambling.

Where to Buy in Canada

For Canadian collectors, Amazon Canada is the most reliable source for current Smiski series. You'll find consistent availability, CAD pricing, and Prime shipping across all provinces. Specialty toy and kawaii shops in major cities like Toronto, Vancouver, and Montréal also carry select series.

Displaying Your Collection

Half the fun of Smiski is finding the perfect spot for each figure. Smiskis love to be placed somewhere meaningful — where their pose matches their surroundings. A bathroom Smiski on the edge of the sink. A Working Series Smiski beside your keyboard. A napping one on the nightstand where it can charge in the morning light.

Beyond just positioning, the best displays use light strategically. A windowsill display charges your figures during the day and turns them into a soft glowing tableau at night. Learn more in our display guide.

Charging & Caring for Smiski

Smiski are very low maintenance. Their phosphorescent material is durable and needs no batteries. The only thing they need is light. Place them somewhere bright during the day — near a window is ideal — and they'll reward you with a soft glow at night. See the charging guide for best practices.
